Paris, September 2, 2005- Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA and NYSE: ALA) today further strengthens its turnkey new media enablement activities by announcing several new cooperation agreements in this domain. Three additional companies – Animation Research Limited, BeTomorrow and 9th Insight – will become part of an Alcatel-driven ecosystem of specialists, each supplying its particular expertise in the new media value chain.

Beyond traditional TV broadcasting, broadband Internet and mobile networks (new media) are set to become attractive content distribution vehicles, creating new value and new revenues for content owners and service providers, and improving the experience of consumers. Alcatel’s focus in the field of new media is to deliver turnkey enablement solutions that allow content owners and service providers to profitably deploy compelling new services.

The combination of Alcatel’s “triple play” service creation and delivery expertise and the specific capabilities of Animation Research Limited, BeTomorrow and 9th Insight will benefit consumers around the world by allowing them to access exciting features and services through their mobile phones and broadband-connected PCs.

As an initial example of these cooperation, Alcatel – the Official New Media Provider of the 32ND America’s Cup – designed and developed an America’s Cup new media service portfolio that includes Virtual TV (for broadband-connected PCs) and Live Sailing (for mobile phones), two innovative services for viewing this exciting sailing race via live virtual reality animations. These services were launched during the recent Louis Vuitton Acts 4&5 in Valencia (Spain). Under Alcatel’s leadership, Animation Research Limited, BeTomorrow and 9th Insight assisted in the production of both of these services.
